Deathspell Omega-Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice (2004)

One of my favorite black metal releases of the last couple years, Deathspell Omega plays a very intelligent, skillful, "orthodox" black metal, incorporating a heavy amount of religious aesthetic and sound into their music. This album really draws the listener in, with it's beautiful yet somewhat clandestine melodies, sampling of religious music, and a rather ceremonial, anthem-like, bombastic black metal feel. This album is considered the first in a trilogy of albums Deathspell Omega is recording. Highly, highly recommended. One of the best, most unique, and talented black metal bands going today. If you have it, you know it's good. If you don't have it, get it. Norma Evangelium Diaboli.
